Make Up Brush

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Josh Riverside Make up brushes are made either from synthetic or natural fibers. Natural fiber brushes are better because natural hair, such as that of goat, squirrel, sable and mongoose, include pores - tiny pockets, which collect color and allow even placement. Make up brushes are available as brush sets with a built in mirror. Small make up sets contain 5 or less brushes, medium sets contain 6 to 8 brushes and large sets contain 9 or more brushes. Soft and durable high quality brushes for the face are used to apply and blend products, contour and buff the face. Buffer brushers help you to buff, polish and blend powder or emollient-based products. Contour brushes blend and contour all powder products. The brow comb brushes are handy for brushing and shaping the eyebrow. The blush brushes are used for shading and highlighting the cheeks and face with powder and blush. The powder brushes are for applying face powder and for full and dense dusting of loose or pressed powder on face or body. These are good for blush application also. Foundation brushes are essential for applying cream or liquid foundation evenly. Make up brushes for the eye include shader brushes, lash brushes for applying mascara products, and the brow groomer to groom and blend brow color and to brush the brows for a natural look. The eyeliner brush is used to line the eyes with liquid or cream products. The fluff brushes are suitable for the application of eye shadow to the eyelid area. Lip brushes are used to apply lipstick, lip-gloss and lip conditioners. The lip liner brush is for controlled lipstick or eyeliner application. The retractable lip brush is a compact lip brush for the handbag. Make up brushes must be washed on a regular basis with a tiny amount of shampoo and warm water. Then, allow them to dry with bristles positioned over the edge of a sink. Brush cleansers can be used to clean, disinfect and condition the brush fibers. Make Up provides detailed information on Make Up, Eye Make Up, Make Up Tips, Make Up Mirrors and more. Make Up is affiliated with Nail Care. Drawing Cloth Doll Faces the Easy Way

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Karen Bennet It is a wonderful feeling when you finally finish sewing your doll. She is SO cute, her frock is just adorable and her hair is exactly the way you wanted it. She is just perfect! The only thing left to do is to draw her face. This is the part of doll making that can cause the most anxiety amongst doll makers, but by following a few simple “rules” you can confidently achieve a gorgeous face every time. Always begin by drawing your dolls face on paper. Practice positioning your dolls features to ensure you have the right proportion and position. Have fun experimenting with different styles and observe those around you. Babies, small children and characters in children’s books often have cute features, which can provide inspiration. I encourage you to use your imagination to personalise your doll and make her a “one of a kind” heirloom. On a sheet of paper, draw a shape similar in size to your dolls head. Lightly draw a line horizontally and vertically through the centre of the face. Look in the mirror and you will notice your eyes are approximately midway between your chin and the top of your head. Mark the centres of the eyes on the horizontal line an equal distance from the midline. By placing the eyes slightly lower on the face, your doll will have a younger appearance.Divide the lower half of your face into thirds and mark a small dot on the centre line at these points. These will be the positions of the nose and the mouth. Next, you will need to choose the style of face you would like. The style you choose should fit the character of your doll. A naive style doll will have a much simpler face than a more formal doll. Experiment with different shapes for each facial feature. You may like to try round eyes and oval eyes, with or without eyelashes and eyebrows, a little button or a straight nose and different sizes and shapes of hearts or smiley u shapes for your dolls mouth. Some dolls look gorgeous with two tiny “commas” for nostrils instead of a nose. The more styles you try out the easier it will be for you to choose a face that really complements your doll. When you are happy with the style, size, shapes and positioning of all of your doll’s facial features it is time to add some colour to bring your doll to life. Pigma micron 01 made by Sakura are the brand of pen I prefer. They are waterproof and fade proof and they contain archival, pigment ink. They are also available in a range of 6 colours. Derwent artist pencils also provide a high quality finish to your doll’s face and you can purchase them individually in your favourite colours. If you plan to continue doll making then purchasing good quality pens and pencils to finish your doll is an excellent investment. Choose eye, mouth and cheek colours to complement your doll. Use the black pen to draw the eyes and eyelashes, the brown pen to draw the nose and eyebrows and either the brown or the red pen for your doll’s mouth. Be careful when using drawing pens, they have a very fine tip so always hold them in an upright position (not slanted) to prevent damaging the pen tip. Before adding pencil colour to your doll experiment with the various ways you can apply this. You can achieve many different effects by using either a sharper or a blunter pencil. You should also try the side of the pencil as well as the point. A good way to add shading is to apply the colour to a scrap of paper or calico and carefully rub this over the area you want to colour. Gradually build up the colour in layers until you obtain the desired look. Just remember it is easier to add a bit more colour than it is to try to remove it. It’s also a good idea to keep a record of the colours you have used, just jot down the names of the colours and any special techniques you may have used to apply them alongside your diagram as a reference for future use. Once you are completely satisfied with your doll’s new face, it is time to transfer it onto fabric. However, before you take the final step, it is a good idea to practice one more time just to make yourself comfortable with working on fabric. The slightly uneven texture of the fabric will make a difference when you are drawing the face and the colours may need adjusting to suit. Place a piece of fabric in an embroidery hoop and follow the steps listed above, once again. Once you have added all of your doll’s features to the fabric and you are satisfied she has just the attitude and expression you are trying to achieve then you are ready to complete your doll! You should feel completely comfortable now applying your doll’s face! You might like to add your dolls photo to an online Photo Gallery so others can see her online. The Secret to Growing Gorgeous Orchids

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Jonah Winn-Lenetsky Humidity, Humidity, Humidity. This can be a very tricky one, but You need to raise the humidity. Humidity in a normal household is far too low for orchids to thrive. It is important to bring it up to at least 40 or 50 percent. In cold climates during the winter relative household humidity often averages close to 20 percent. Household humidity can be even lower in desert areas. At humidity that low orchid leaves will begin to shrivel and flowers will brown and drop off. Something called Bud Blast will often occur in low humidity situations (especially on Phalaenopsis orchids). This is where the developing flower buds drop off before they have a chance to open. Some orchids can adapt to lower humidity than others, so it is important to know how adaptable your orchids are. However, in general, no orchid is going to thrive at humidity below 35%-40%. Last winter my humidifier broke and the humidity around my plants was hovering near 35%. Most of my orchids survived this period, but they didnt love it. I was also misting them several times a day. Misting is generally not recommended, because it only brings up the humidity temporarily and can cause orchid plants to rot. There are some practical ways to get your orchids more humidity.Invest in a room humidifier, these can be inexpensive and add humidity to a whole room. I recommend evaporative pad humidifiers instead of cool-mist humidifiers.Group orchid plants together, as they release humidity into the air and add in other houseplants and companion plants that can be kept moist all the time. These will help to increase humidity over a confined area.Use humidity trays. These can help to raise the humidity immediately getting to the plants by five or 10 percent. There are two ways to make these, you can use a plastic tray filled with small gravel (I use a plastic drip tray for pots), and fill the base with water, keeping the orchid pots on the gravel, just above the water line. Alternatively, you can buy pre-made plastic grates that you fill with water and place the orchids on the grate, above the waterline. These are usually available from mail-order orchid retailers, such as Oak Hill Gardens, or Orchids Limited.I have recently acquired a Mist Maker that uses ultrasonic waves to create mist. These can be really effective, but they are a bit tricky to use and really raise the humidity, so be careful. Place the orchids in a location that is already humid. Dont put them in a bathroom, because orchids hate for the humidity to fluctuate drastically. However, basements are often a viable option.Summer the orchids outside. In colder climates it still may be possible to keep the orchids outside three or four months a year. Avoid this option if you live in a desert region with low humidity and high temperatures.Buy orchids that will withstand lower humidity. Some orchids are from the cloud forest and hat low humidity, an example would be Masdevallias. Other orchids, such as Cattleyas Phalaenopsis and Encyclias can adapt to lower humidity levels, closer to 50%.Designate a room for growing. This will make humidity, as well as other conditions more manageable.Try to keep the humidity at 50% or greater, this is a general rule of thumb.Buy a digital clock that measures humidity. They sell these at target, as well as specialty nurseries. Some of this information was taken from Charlie Baker at http://www.orchidculture.com Orchids For Dummies by Steven A. Practical Work Needs

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Morgan Bryan Looking at employment from the point of view of the worker, the first thing that she/he needs is a job. The next thing is some information about what to do on the job. After that there is the need for work skills such as computer literacy. The three “Rs are always needed and their need should always be pointed out. Finally some sort of indication is needed that success, in the new work position, is possible. One of the issues in being successful at the job is the matter of getting along with others. As family priorities change, the matter of “civil deportment” is often not taught in the home as was formerly the case. This produces students and prospective employees who do not know the common rules of deportment. For this reason and others, they often do not get along well with their peers.Teaching these skills in school my be something for the educational system to seriously consider. High School ROTC programs are useful in teaching comportment, where they are available. Another issue is “What constitutes computer literacy”? Specifically, does “computer literacy” include the ability to use spreadsheet programs? It is the opinion of the author that spreadsheet knowledge is an important component of computer literacy. In most High Schools, there are no classes that teach students how to wait on customers at a retail store. Nor are there classes on how to work in the kitchen of a fast food restaurant. Such skills as mentioned above not only provide useful skills, but convey the message that staying in school can be helpful in obtaining a job after High School. While it is recognized that High Schools are obligated to teach the basic requirements, they also have the requirement to make the student employable. This function they are not fulfilling. Often this is because the High School is not having an ongoing discussions with the local business community. Such contact is important to insure that the courses offered by the High School meet the needs of the work place. Spa Treatments, Facials, Natural Facials, and Spa Therapy are Great Ways to Relax Before your Weddin

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Ken Bissonette Brides, prepare for your Wedding Day by having a facial about a week before. This will give your skin a chance to breathe and clear of any impurities. You could have the facial at a spa or salon, or choose to give yourself a home facial, for example, using cucumber slices or whisked egg white. Steam your face with water, and than splash with cool water to feel refreshed. There are many other natural home facials you could do yourself. Whatever you choose, your skin will be looking great for your big day. Spa treatments, facials, natural facials, and spa therapy are great ways to relax before your wedding day. When choosing make up for your day, for that more natural look wear a couple of light dustings of powder instead of foundation which can look heavier. If your eyes and hair are light in color choose an ivory foundation, golden pink blush, pastel colors for your eye shadow and pink or red tones for lipstick. This is an example of how a makeup chart may give advice on coloring and makeup. Spa treatments, facials, natural facials, and spa therapy are great ways to relax before your wedding day. A Successful Job Interview

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Alex Berez As you may know, when you apply for the Canadian visa, you mustattend to an interview with a Visa officer. Ive helped people from all over the world get ready for theirinterviews, and based on my experiences with them, Ive preparedhundreds of useful tips that people looking for a job can use tosucceed in any job interview! Here are some of them… It’s the moment you’ve been anticipating. You’ve been steadilysending off resumes for the last two weeks and now the phone isringing. On the other end is the disembodied voice of a businessprofessional saying, “We’ve received your resume, and we’d like tohave you come in for an interview.” What do you do? Getting responses to our resumes can be exciting because it meansthat the employer is interested. Very few employers call in everysingle applicant since they don’t have that kind of time. So, inmost cases, being called for an interview means that we’vesuccessfully passed the first round of screening. There wassomething on our resume that attracted their attention. Now what? All of us go through this when we are searching for a job. Theproblem is that most of us don’t realize that the job interviewactually began the moment we pick up the phone and greet thatcaller. How you handle yourself on the phone gives the interviewersome idea of what you’re like in person. Any one can look good onpaper, but the majority of people have more difficulty “faking it”during an impromptu phone conversation. Of course, not all of these calls will be made by the actualinterviewers. In some cases, these individuals will ask theirsecretaries or assistants to arrange the interviews for them. However, you’ll still want to make a good impression on theseindividuals. For one, you may not know until it’s too late whetheryou are talking to the interview or his/her representative. Plus, these representatives may pass along their opinion of yourperformance to their boss anyway. Therefore, you should alwaystreat the caller as if they are someone important from the company;someone who will have a hand in determining whether or not you getthe job. Preparing for Calls As soon as you begin sending out resumes, you should alsobegin to prepare to receive phone calls from employers. Rememberthat your contact information should be clearly marked on yourresume and on your cover letter so that potential employers can getin touch with you. That contact information should include severalpossibilities, including your home number, your work number (if youhave a private number that isn’t screened by your current employer),your cellular number, and your e-mail address. You can also listspecific times for each contact method. For example, “You canreach me at 555-5555 any time after 5 pm. Before 5 pm, please callXXX-XXXX.” That will make it easier for potential interviewers toreach you. With that in mind, you need to prepare all of yourcontact channels for these potential calls. Got Cold Feet When It Comes to Creative Marriage Proposal Ideas?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Julie Shields Aaagghh, trying to develop brilliant marriage proposal ideas, is enough to drive you crazy. Not only that, but after all that planning, you still are on edge waiting to see if she’ll say “Yes!” And to top it all off, after all is said and done, not only will everyone be looking at her engagement ring but they’ll also be asking…… “so, how did he pop the question?” Joel asked me to marry him on Valentine’s Day. I had no idea that he was going to propose so it was a total surprise. However, he called my parents several weeks before to ask for their permission for my hand in marriage. He then swore them to total secrecy. He also called his parents several days prior to proprosing to me, to alert them as to what was going down. He cooked me a 7 course meal at his apartment. Then we watched an episode of “24,” his favorite tv show. Hence, it had the feel of a very typical evening. After “24″ ended, he presented me with my Valentine’s day gift……which surprised me. He “re-gifted” a stuffed animal that I had given him during our first Valentine’s Day together. The stuffed animal was a running joke in our relationship…as he admitted to me years after-the-fact that that was probably the worst gift I had ever gotten him and that most grown men do not wish to receive fluffy green frogs as gifts. Anyway, he delighted in my puzzled expression for awhile as I simultanelously pretended to appreciate the regifted frog. A number of minutes passed and then he said matter of factly that he actually had one more gift for me. He took my hand and led me into the his bedroom. He had candles lit throughout the room and rose petals sprinkled across the bed In the center of the bed, was a small box. He led me over to the box, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. He opened the box and then forgetting tradition and overwhelmed with excitement, I took the ring out myself and put it on my finger. I than began kissing him. He stopped me because I never answered his question. After I responded with an emphatic “Yes!” the rest is history…… ——————————————————— Have no fear. Here are some marriage proposal ideas which you are free to take full credit for and present as your own: - Marriage proposal ideas: #1 Do it outside…the proposal that is.. pack a 5 star, upscale picnic with champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and other such gourmet luxuaries. If you have one, go to one of your favorite natural spots for the picnic. Present her with a list of 100: unique things that you have done together, inside jokes, favorite moments, etc. After she has eaten the delicious meal and read the list, she will be like putty in your hand….. Pull out the ring and ask her if she will be yours forevor - Marriage proposal ideas: #2 Do something special to a momento that you have from one of your dates. i.e. Frame a movie ticket stub from the first movie you went to together. Go back to the place where you had your first date. Reminisce about all the good times you’ve had together since you’ve started dating. Present her with the momento and talk about how you’ve had so many adventures together and how you never want that to end. After she’s squealed over the momento and how thoughtful you are, pull out the ring and pop the question. This will be a night that she will remember forever and you will look like one, romantic stud. - Marriage proposal ideas: #3 Have a t-shirt printed up that says “The next Mrs. _______ (insert your last name).” Cook a romantic dinner at home for her. When the timing is right after dinner, tell her you bought something for her. Present the t-shirt (which should be elegantly wrapped up in a gift-box). As her eyes are bulging over as she reads the tshirt, pull out the ring and ask away. - Marriage proposal ideas: #4 Take her to your childhood neighborhood. Show her some of the special spots that you loved growing up. At the last spot, get down on one knee and propose. Have a fabulous evening planned following the proposal The author just celebrated her one year anniversary and sports a beautiful ascher cut ring. Free Yourself of Acid Reflux Drug Addiction

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Charles Stewart Richey Recent statistics from the US Department of Health and Human Services suggest that over seven million people suffer from severe acid reflux in the U.S. alone. It is estimated that over fifteen million Americans suffer from chronic heartburn, as well. The incidence of acid reflux is greater in people over the age of forty, but it can affect anyone, even infants. Acid reflux affects people of every age, socioeconomic class and race. Simply put, acid reflux occurs when stomach acid splashes up through the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) into the esophagus and throat. This reflux of acid can be the result of many things including diet, alcohol consumption, smoking, hiatal hernia, stress and even pregnancy. When this refluxed acid hits the tender lining of the esophagus, it causes a painful burning sensation in the chest and, or throat. Other symptoms include difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia), hoarseness, asthma and dental erosion. If left untreated, this condition can evolve into more severe and life threatening diseases like Barretts Esophagus, which is a precursor to esophageal cancer. In an attempt to avoid the more serious consequences of acid reflux, people are resorting more and more to pharmaceutical drugs. There are three classifications of drugs which treat and acid reflux. The first of these are antacids, which neutralize the acid in your stomach and are at best only a temporary fix. They are loaded with harmful ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. The next group of drugs is called H2 Blockers. They reduce the amount of acid that the stomach produces and provide longer lasting relief than antacids. Finally there are the PPI drugs (proton pump inhibitors), which shut off the proton pumps in the stomach that manufacture hydrochloric acid. PPI drugs should only be used for eight weeks, at most. It says so right on the package. Doctors certainly know this but allow if not encourage most patients to continue taking these drugs on a permanent basis. PPI drugs actually shut down the pumps that produce the stomach acid necessary to digest and assimilate food. This is an essential function of our physical anatomy. Another point of concern is that stomach acid keeps very dangerous bacteria, which live in the stomach and intestines, in check. There are, unfortunately, no studies that can determine the long term effects of these drugs. We do, however, know what the potential harmful side effects are and there are hundreds of them. They include: allergic reaction, back and chest pain, fatigue, fever, flu-like disorder, hypertension, constipation, GI hemorrhage, vomiting, tinnitus, anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, weight gain, arthritis, fibromyalgia syndrome, anorexia, depression, dizziness, impotence, insomnia, migraine, visual field defect, menstrual disorder, asthma aggravated, pharyngitis, acne, taste loss, fungal infection and Barretts esophagus just to mention a few! The medical community would have us believe that drugs are the only answer to the problem of acid reflux. Doctors are not taught nutrition or natural healing techniques in med school. As a result they depend on prescription drugs to treat the symptoms of acid reflux disease. They unfortunately know nothing about how to cure the condition itself. PPI drugs are very big business. Annual global sales for PPI drugs alone reached well over six billion dollars in 2002. One can only guess what those statistics are today. One can only imagine the extent of the damage these drugs are causing people all over the world. I am happy to say that we are not limited to pharmaceuticals in order to rid ourselves of the acid reflux condition. There are many alternative techniques and procedures which can be employed to accomplish that end. As a veteran of the acid reflux drug battle, I am living proof that one can heal themselves of acid reflux by using what I call natural medicine. When I found out that my doctor had exhausted all possibilities of helping me, outside of the PPI drug regime, I knew that I was on my on. I had to heal myself. To my surprise, through research and study, I found that curing acid reflux disease is really quite simple. With a few modest changes in lifestyle and with the help of several natural remedies, one can absolutely win the battle against acid reflux without the use of drugs. There are many natural ingredients found in any health store, which can help during the acid reflux recovery period. Herbs, such as marshmallow, slippery elm and bladderwrack have wonderful healing properties. Aloe vera, licorice and natural honey can sooth the esophagus and assist in the healing process. Chewing gum between meals actually neutralizes stomach acid. There are many simple things which contribute to the acid reflux condition which most people overlook; insufficient water consumption is one of them. Eating too rapidly and chewing food improperly is another. Eating smaller, more frequent meals is helpful. Substituting Kukicha Twig tea for coffee makes the body more alkaline. Have fruit, like bananas and melons instead of cereal for breakfast. Snacks of walnuts, almonds and more fruit will keep you going throughout the day. At dinner eat lightly and at least two hours before retiring. You certainly dont have to starve yourself, but try to stay away from those acid reflux trigger foods. It does take a new approach to life, in general, to heal a stubborn acid reflux condition. Think of it as an exciting challenge. You will feel so much better and your health will improve. It will have been worth the effort. In a society where convenience sometimes takes precedence over common sense, pills have taken the place of ancient healing techniques and natural therapies. Drugs taken on a regular basis can be more dangerous than the illness itself. Take command of your health and use natural resources to free yourself of those acid reflux drugs. 2006 Wind Publishing For free recipes, articles and information, visit: http://www.refluxgoneforever.com Charles Stewart Richey is a self-educated expert on how to cure acid reflux disease by natural means. Get Rid Of Wrinkles In A Wink!

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Davion Wong Women would kill to get rid of wrinkles. This statement is absolutely correct ten years ago. Today, it is only half true. Men nowadays would also do likewise in order to get rid of those laugh lines, frown lines and crows feet. Everyone is vain about their looks, young and old, males and females. This is especially true if wrinkles come knocking at your doors even before you hit your mid-forties. Fret not, as we can look at some ways to prevent and get rid of wrinkles and to reverse its effect on our skin. First of all, we need to understand what some of the common causes of wrinkles are so as to avoid them. 1. Smoking Smoking is harmful to our skin. It damages our skin tissues and hinders regeneration of collagen. Collagen is partly responsible for the elasticity of our skin. Guess what happens when the production of collagen is affected? Our skin starts to lose its elasticity and sagging takes place. Wrinkle lines appear. 2. Over-exposure to Sunlight A little sun is good and healthy for our skin. Too much of it, especially ultraviolet-A (UVA) rays, can cause great damage to our skin tissues, particularly collagen and elastin. Deformities in these connective tissue take place and wrinkles are developed. 3. Excessive Facial Expressions If you like to laugh a lot, or simply have too many facial expressions, then you are the perfect candidate for those wrinkles to appear. Being expressive is a great thing, but wrinkles seem to think otherwise. Enough is said about the causes of wrinkles. Let us see what we can do to get rid of wrinkles and not give them a chance to affect our physical appearances. Cheers to vanity! 1. Application of Sun block Sun block with adequate sun protection factor (SPF) is effective in protecting our skin against the harms of ultraviolet-B (UVB) rays. It does nothing much against UVA which is the big time culprit against our skin connective tissues. UVA penetrates deep within the skin. The saying of beauty is only skin deep does not apply here since it is the damage beyond the skin surface that would affect our beauty. Look for sun block that offers protection against both UVA and UVB. Avoiding excessive sunlight is another way to get rid of wrinkles. 2. Healthy Diet Having a healthy diet would work miracles in our skin. Research has proven that aging can be slowed down and we can successfully get rid of wrinkles if we maintain a balanced diet that is anti-wrinkle. a. Drink at least 6 8 glasses of water daily to keep your skin hydrated. Water is a natural emollient. b. Eat foods rich in antioxidants like dark green vegetables for instance asparagus, sprouts, watercress, broccoli, etc and fruits like guava, tomatoes and papaya. Antioxidants thwart the oxidation process that magnifies the visibility of wrinkles. c. Drinking green tea is great as it has potent antioxidant properties. Stop looking older than you should.
